way down south

so for the Labor Day weekend, on Saturday Pants and i went way down yonder to Richmond. it was a lovely day trip, and made me think of the time Skarzipan and i drove all the way down to jam with the Professional Student. you know i like you if we can sit in a car together for more than 30 minutes without me turning up the radio REALLY LOUD or feigning sleep.

Richmond was there, pretty much its status since inception in my eyes, and the James River was beautiful, and the sun was hot... we went to Hollywood Cemetery, and besides the typical sight of general headstones and a vast area of Civil War markers, i saw a hummingbird! i was very excited to spot him from the car, but disappointed i didn't get a picture of him.

after checking out the James and the dead folk, we headed over to Carytown to shop and eat, two of my favorite things. i snagged a couple pairs of socks at American Apparel, a DVD at Plan 9, and we looked at myriad other stuff at some furniture place and World of Mirth. we also went to the video game store, because, you know, there’s always the chance they’ll have magical new games the stores in NoVA don’t carry.

for lunch we went to Weezie’s (Pants’ choice) and sure we were rilly hungry but it was fantastic. i heartily recommend it to anyone down in Carytown. very non-descript front (we happened to park near it and Pants liked the name) and simple inside, but the food was delish, and the fries are those ones that have like an extra layer of crispy. mmmmm! the dessert list looked pretty damn good, too, but in an uncharacteristic display of restraint, we skipped the Weezie’s desserts and picked up some sweet noms at For the Love of Chocolate, to eat later at home. i recommend the giant peanut butter cups in dark chocolate, though the truffles were pretty good, too. i think i still prefer Godiva, however. also, if only for novelty, the giant dark chocolate nonpareil was great. it’s like a regular nonpareil, but it’s the size of a small cookie. nom nom nom!

also over the weekend, i bought the most fabulous boots. they make me look awesome. it got hot again, so i have to wait, but as soon as autumn arrives i’ll be wearing them everyday.
