anudder wii-k, anudder pound

i hopped on the wii fit this gloomy morn and got some sunnier news: i’m down from last week! this is exciting, as i always seem to gain three pounds over the weekend, so my Monday weigh-in is sad :( but the trend over past Friday mornings has been loss -- even if it is only a half-pound. pretty damn good for my slack efforts at weight loss!

how slack, you ask? well, i could definitely be doing more. bad things include:
• dessert nearly every night (tho often small)
• minimal jogging (three times a week is the goal, not the reality)
• some large dinners (usually when dining with Pants) and wild food weekends
• general slothitude

but good things are:
• actually jogging!
• wii fit most weekday mornings for 30 minutes
• keeping breakfast & lunch smaller
• occasionally keeping weekday dinners smaller

so i guess it’s working, my crazy mix up of habits. and i’m pretty happy about it. at this rate, maybe i won’t be as super sexah as i want to be for Halloween, but at least i can still enjoy my foodie weekends with Pants and not GAIN weight.

as for the wii fit specifically, it has been pretty awesome. first of all, it may not be the most efficient way to exercise, but it gets me to exercise. it's also nice in that it offers a variety of things for me to do, whereas my limited imagination says "push-ups or sit-ups." and it gives me goals to work for, because it scores you. sure, maybe the scoring system isn't the fairest, but it makes me focus and work harder. it's all about being steady with the wii fit, and that may seem like a less productive approach to leg lifts and push-ups (hey, who cares if you were wobbly or went fast, you did 'em!) it's actually not -- it just means you do fewer, but you work all your muscles well. short story is, the wii fit makes me marginally achy, which means i must be doing something.

it has also been helping my figure in more ways than just weight loss -- i haven’t measured, but IMO i look even slimmer than a few measly pounds would merit. i guess all that yoga and calisthenics are working, too!

i also like the games. it’s true. at first i thought i would just do them occasionally, but they’re pretty fun. my least favorite is lotus focus (you have to sit in the lotus position, which i am physically incapable of doing). but i love the penguin slide. your mii, which is a little cartoon version of you that you make and thus, pretty adorable, dresses up as a penguin. that’s right, you don’t play a penguin CHARACTER, your avatar/mii DRESSES LIKE A PENGUIN. that’s five shades of awesome right there.

so all in all, the whole wii thing is going well. it keeps me motivated to do at least a little exercise that i wouldn’t otherwise be doing, it can be fun, and the best part is that it graphs my progress for me... so i know something must be working. bottom line? my bathroom scale (which will remain bible as wii was a little unreliable at the start) said 158 this morning. a couple months ago, that was 163. amazing? not necessarily. but actual weight loss? yes. definitely yes.

only 20 more pounds to go.
